Activities

ESE objectives are to be achieved by holding scientific meetings and seminars, publication of journals and reports and networking among members.

Current Activities:

Introduction to Basic Literature Search:
Time needed: 3 hours, 1 session
Number: 25 attendees.
Workshop: a 30 min lecture followed by a practical session.
The attendees would be introduced to different search engines (Medline, Pubmed and Google Scholar), different search parameters and Mesh terms.

Introduction to Research Design
Number: 25 attendees.
Workshop: Lecture with some practical examples.
Different study designs would be reviewed with the attendees (Case Control, Cohort, Cross-sectional, Ecological and experimental study designs). The pros and cons would be discussed with a highlight on the appropriate study design for different situations based on feasibility, time and research question.

Introduction to Basic Biostatistics
Time needed: 6 hours, 2 sessions (1 or 2 days)
Number: 20 attendees.
Workshop: Lecture with some practical examples.
The attendees would be introduced to basic biostatistics terms (Mean, Median, Range, Quartiles, Variance, and Standard Deviation) and basic biostatistical graphs (Histograms, Boxplots). The attendees would be introduced to the basic biostatistical concepts required to further understand simple one and two sample biostatical analysis

Introduction to Basic Biostatistical Analysis
Time needed: 6 hours, 2 sessions (either 1 day or on 2 days)
Number: 20 attendees.
Workshop: Lecture with some practical examples.
The attendees would be introduced to simple basic biostatistical analysis (One sample T-test, Z-Test, Chi Square test, MacNimar). The attendees would be introduced to the basic Biostatistical analysis tests, it is required whether they attend the basic Biostatic workshop or/and have a previous basic statistical knowledge.

Introduction to Systematic Reviews
Time needed: 2-3 Hours, 1 session (basic literature search is a perquisite)
Number: 20-25 attendees
Workshop:  lecture with a practical example
The attendees would be introduced to basic systematic review, its main items, the major methodological aspects, the search technique and relevance of Systematic Reviews.
